Proceeds from
Music@First will be used to fund the Les Childs Scholarship
awarded annually to an applicant for pursuit of excellence
in music. Les Childs was choir director for First Congregational
Church of Vernon for over 13 years until his death in 1999.
He was well liked and respected for his musicianship and professionalism.
He was a founding member of CONCORA, the premier Connecticut
choral musicians. He was also Director of Music at South Catholic
High School in Hartford, where he was a teacher, mentor and
role model to many youth. He was involved in numerous musical
organizations in the area. The Les Childs Music Scholarship
fund was established to continue his work in teaching and
influencing students of music.

FCCV CHOIR CD’S
Two CD’s of music performed by our choirs are now available at $10 each. “The Magic of Christmas” (Dec. 13, 2009) featuring all the FCCV choirs and “Choir Music of FCCV” directed by Les Childs that includes the Palm Sunday Concert (1989 with solo by Les on “Take My Mother Home”) and music from Lessons and Carols (1990). Anyone interested in purchasing these CD’s should contact Russ Kunz.
