In an article entitled "Where Healing Belongs" psychologist Larry Cobb wants to return soul care to the local church. His premise is termed "eldering." He believes that a healthy church emerges when older, wiser members work with younger, struggling men and women. This interaction allows healing to take place.

His thoughts came to mind when I reviewed what I had written for the worship schedule in May. Our services include a decommissioning, confirming and receiving of new members, a new members class with sponsors and a Service of Remembrance. There will even be a baptism to be celebrated by the entire church family. In every service there is a dialogue among the ages - older helping younger, the younger amazing the elder. Healing comes about with this kind of interaction because it promotes and encourages wholeness.
